It's an old shopping center site smack in between two University campuses and Durham- so it's anything but typical. Our challenge was to repeat the energy and vibe of Durham- to make it feel like it is a part of the community, so it had to be more than a typical standalone project. A plan with a mix of uses was developed to give the area a sense of place and a reason to be there. But we needed to keep it dirty, and all about Durham. How do we do that? Art, murals, and making the building a canvas that reflects the community they serve, see, it's not a monument to Dwell- it's all about being a place that's a part of the community- and we take a lot of pride in that.
