Durham Market is the planned adaptive re-use of an 60,000sf car dealership, on a 3.5 acre site in Durham, NC. The building is being transformed into a City Market, resembling Chelsea Market in New York City, among others. The existing shell of the building is being maintained, while new storefront, graphics and public gathering spaces will make this a vibrant destination. A variety of retail, food purveyors and restaurant tenants will fill the Market and provide a much needed authentic alternative to the typical grocer. Most importantly, the adaptive re-use of the existing building saves and transforms the “good bones” of the structure into their highest and best use, maintaining the existing urban fabric of Durham.
